What is The Enlightened Gent?
The Enlightened Gent is for anyone interested in conscious consumerism (or how to become a conscious consumer), especially when it comes to men’s fashion. There’s a lot of stuff out there about sustainable fashion, ethical and eco-friendly fashion, over-consumerism, conscious consumerism, greenwashing, and on and on. It can be mind-boggling and time-consuming to sort through everything. The goal of this website is to help you sift through all the stuff out there so that you can be a more conscious consumer.
The Enlightened Gent is also here to help you sort through your current wardrobe, find the right style from brands that actually walk the sustainable walk, and give you alternatives to simply tossing out clothes you no longer wear.

Origin Story
In a nutshell, here’s the origin story of The Enlightened Gent.
Many moons ago, a young woman in Los Angeles (that would be me) thought she would have a career in finance and accounting. She got an MBA and did financial work for a number of years. Then, she got the courage to leave that all behind to study the fashion business in Paris. Unfortunately, finding a job wasn’t easy, so she decided to make another pivot. She packed her bags and moved to Tokyo to teach English while she figured out what she really wanted to do with her life.
In her spare time, she started taking courses and reading up on sustainable fashion and fashion’s impact on the environment. That’s how she discovered her passion. After that, she started looking into companies embracing a circular economy, brands founded on the concept of a sustainable and ethical supply chain. That’s when she realized how time-consuming (and a bit overwhelming) it can be to find truly sustainable brands, not to mention the right style.
That led to her “aha” moment and the creation of The Enlightened Gent.
